Does It Work? TXA In Trauma

TXA Doesn't Work!

......or so they said.

A recent systematic review evaluated how effective Tranexamic Acid (TXA) is for trauma patients in emergency settings:

➡ The Study focused on TXA's effectiveness in emergency trauma cases.

➡ Included 7 randomized controlled trials.

➡ Primary endpoint: 1-month mortality.

📉 Main Results:

➊ 11% decrease in death risk at 1 month after TXA use (OR 0.89, 95% CI 0.84 to 0.95).

➋ Reduced 24-hour mortality with TXA (OR 0.76, 95% CI 0.65 to 0.88).

➌ No significant increase in vascular occlusive events (OR 0.96, 95% CI 0.73 to 1.27).

👀 Subgroup Insights:

➊ TXA more effective in general trauma than traumatic brain injury.

➋ Out-of-hospital TXA administration linked to lower mortality than in-hospital.

➌ No major differences in blunt vs. penetrating trauma.

Conclusions:

➡TXA in emergencies leads to reduced 1-month mortality.

➡No problematic increase in vascular occlusive events.

➡Earlier, out-of-hospital administration might be more beneficial.
